College Jacket

The first piece I sewed for my little nephew was a College Jacket.
Sadly we can’t send this to him during corona.

The sewing pattern I had from the Burda Baby 2018. I totally loved the pattern.

I got more into sewing with Jersey and which needles to choose to.
For the armes I upcycled some pants. The fabric is an polycester fabric with a pattern that is similar to waffle pique.
Similar fabric are jacquard and waffle pipque. For a baby I would probably choose waffle pique. For toddlers jacquard or upcycle old pants, jeans will also work.

For the back and front I bought a Jersey fabric with animals prints. While stiching the Jersey I learned a lot about Jersey, Needles and the different types of Jersey.
I recommend to buy Jersey needles the round tip wont makes holes. It is also important to use a needle that is neither to small or to big. The burda pattern also gives suggestions for stiching. They suggest a flat zick zack stich which worked well for me. On top they suggest to use the overlock stich most machines have. Check out your machine and the overlock options here. Here my resume is that, if I sew more I will get a simple overlock since those sew way faster.

For the cuffs I used a fitting jersey cuff fabric in blue. The arm cuffs I redid twice, since it was sliding to much. I made the arm cuffs slightly bigger by accident, this way the arm did not get puffy enough. The lower cuff I placed a bit wrong, sadly it is not overlapping now. But mainly this are my biggest mistakes.

For the buttons I chose push buttons and some wooden animal buttons as decoration on top.
